There are two issues here with the “seamless” fabric design:

First, when you have folds, you have more fabric. It may sound a bit silly to include that as an “increase in mass”, but we should remember that the fabric itself (that water-repellent fabric) is not the same as the ‘regular’ cotton fabric we are used to seeing and using.

Second, the folds in the fabric create “bumps” in the suit, and ruin its allegedly ’smooth/no-drag’ structure.

I don’t get the significance of the folding of the fabric on the mass. Surely the mass must stay the same?

Phelps does not need a special swimsuit to get his medals! Look at the two GOLD medals he won today…breaking records without this “special” swimsuit!!!!
